Oklahoma!

What a quick, short-but-sweet weekend! Friday we took a half-day and headed off to Oklahoma City to visit Paw Paw (Ry's grandpa) who just turned 91!! Talk about some good genes! We arrived late Friday night, were picked up by Ry's parents and sister and caught up over a round of drinks before crashing into bed.

Saturday morning we had a nice birthday breakfast for Paw Paw at his condo, while he opened up his cards and gifts.

We then gathered ingredients for our tailgating party and headed off to Norman, home of Oklahoma University (where Ry's parents both attended and met!) Ry's dad showed off his fraternity house and room and Ry's mom showed off her sorority house and room. It was so neat to see "where it all began" and you could tell it was special for them to reminisce!

They gave us a tour of their campus and showed us where all of their classes were.

Seeing Paw Paw was the obvious purpose of our trip but the main reason we chose THIS weekend was because Oklahoma University was playing Texas A&M in college football and our Paw Paw was chosen to be honored after the 1st quarter for having been one of the longest season ticket holders in history! We were invited as his family to support him in his honor so we knew it would be a special event not to be missed! So before the game, we tailgated- had a great picnic and sipped on our favorite beverage... Rombauer!

After tailgating, we walked around the campus, looked at all the great shops and fed off all great OU energy... they have such spirit and patriotism there!

We then made our way to the game and right before 1st quarter was to end, we were escorted down to the field for Paw Paw's announcement... in front of 80,000 people and projected onto the big screens! It was so great being on the field with Paw Paw and the entire family... he was besides himself and glowing with happiness! We were so thrilled to be there with him!

Sunday morning the entire family went to church and then we went to brunch at Paw Paw's country club. Soon after, it was time to go home! What a fun weekend seeing Ry's family in their element, nothing like some pure college spirit!
